Challenge: design a food menu app for business professionals to allow users to place orders for pickup and delivery.

Solutions: Allow users to select specific times to pickup or have their order delivered. List ingredients so users can avoid ingredients they are allergic to.

Work on this project began in September 2021 and has continued through November.

Food ordering app

research

I did a competitive analysis and conducted interviews with working professionals to gather information on their preferences when ordering food for takeout or delivery. These results were then analyzed to determine patterns and pain points.

persona: Annette

persona

Annette is a 72-year-old retired  photographer. She lives in the outskirts of San Francisco with her partner and their golden doodle. They order food for takeout or delivery once every other week. She loves entertaining friends at their home and wants to make sure when she orders food it will be ready on time.

“We usually order pickup because it eliminates the delivery charge and then we get out and do it.”

digital wireframes

One of the points in the research is that users wanted to feel safe knowing that they would not be allergic to their food. They also wanted to know if their food was cooked: baked, fried, sauteed etc.

mockups

Users found the text buttons over the photos on the home page difficult to read. Separating the text buttons from the photos and placing the welcome text directly on the home page improved legibility.

solutions

This prototype has been well received by the participants of the study. Next steps may include building out the payment option for Google Pay or the Apple Pay and adding functionality to allow returning customers to easily reorder their last order
